Sports & Performance Consulting
Sports and Performance Consulting
I’ve built these departments. Now I help others build theirs.
I built the University of Oregon’s football nutrition department from scratch inside a Pac-12 program that made a CFP National Championship appearance, won 2 Rose Bowls, and claimed 2 Conference Championships. I directed performance nutrition across three Power Conference programs before spending four seasons doing the same inside the NFL. Most consultants teach theory. I’ve done the job at the highest level.

Performance Nutrition Department Development
Many athletic departments know they need better nutrition support but don’t know how to build it. They hire a single dietitian, hand them a budget, and hope for the best. That’s not a system.
I help departments build the entire operation:
- Department structure and staffing model
- Budget development and resource allocation (food service, supplements, testing, staffing)
- Facility design consultation (fueling stations, nutrition lounges, grab-and-go setups, hydration systems)
- Vendor selection and management
- Compliance frameworks for NCAA and conference-specific supplement regulations
- Integration with S&C, sports medicine, and sport coaching staff
- KPI development: what to measure, how to report, how to demonstrate ROI to administration
- Hiring consultation: what to look for in candidates and how to evaluate them
A Group of Five program with a $50K budget and a Power Four program with $500K have fundamentally different needs. I’ve worked across both ends and build systems that match your resources.
Performance Staff Integration and Optimization
Your S&C staff, sports medicine team, nutrition staff, and sport coaches all touch the athlete. But in most programs, they operate in silos.
I help performance staffs integrate:
- Cross-departmental communication systems
- Athlete monitoring frameworks: combining GPS/load data, HRV, body composition, bloodwork, and subjective wellness into unified decision-making
- Testing protocols and cadence: what to test, when, how to interpret, how to translate data into actionable recommendations for sport coaches
- Recovery protocol standardization across sports
- Supplement program design and compliance management
- Athlete profiling systems (body composition, movement screening, performance benchmarking)
- Staff development: upskilling your team on biomarker interpretation, nutrition periodization, and integrated performance health
The goal is not to replace your staff. It’s to make them more effective by building systems that turn individual departments into a coordinated performance operation.
Nutrition Staff Development and Mentorship
Your sports dietitian is talented but early in their career. They know the science but haven’t built systems at scale, managed a supplement budget, navigated vendor relationships, or figured out how to get a head football coach to listen to them.
I mentor and develop nutrition staff through:
- 1-on-1 mentorship for sports RDs and performance nutritionists
- System design: scalable nutrition programs (meal plans, fueling stations, game-day protocols, supplement management)
- Stakeholder communication: presenting data and recommendations to head coaches, ADs, and administration in language that drives action
- Career development: positioning for advancement within collegiate or professional sport
- Case-based learning: real scenarios from my experience inside the NFL and Power Conference programs
- Integration training: working effectively with S&C, sports medicine, and coaching staffs
This is the mentorship most young practitioners never get because their department head was hired two years before them and is figuring it out at the same time. I’ve been doing this for 20+ years.
Program Audits and Strategic Reviews
Sometimes a program doesn’t need ongoing consulting. They need someone with deep experience to walk in, assess what’s working and what’s not, and deliver a strategic plan.
I conduct program audits covering:
- Current nutrition program assessment (staffing, budget, protocols, athlete satisfaction, compliance)
- Performance staff structure and communication review
- Supplement program compliance audit
- Testing and monitoring assessment
- Facility and resource evaluation
- Benchmarking against peer programs and best practices from professional sport
- Strategic recommendations with implementation timeline and budget projections
Deliverable:
A comprehensive written report with specific, prioritized recommendations and a phased implementation plan your AD can take to a budget meeting.
Speaking and Education for Performance Staffs

- Biomarker interpretation for sports dietitians and S&C coaches
- Nutrition periodization across the competitive calendar

- Performance health systems thinking
- Lessons from the NFL: what professional sport does differently

Testimonial
During that preseason, we knew we needed to elevate our players beyond just training, specifically in lifestyle, nutrition, and overall wellness, so they could take greater ownership of their performance without constant hand-holding. That’s when we brought in Pratik.
Pratik helped us build a comprehensive education system that we could deliver to our players and continue using as an ongoing resource. His approach was incredibly thoughtful, deep and detailed, yet still easy for our athletes to understand and apply. Our players consistently referred back to the material to improve their sleep, nutrition, recovery, and supplementation strategies.
Most importantly, his work was a nice addition to help us achieve one of the most successful seasons in league history. In 2023, the San Diego Legion finished with a 15–1 regular season record, the best in league history, and a record-breaking 74 standings points.
